Barbed ends
Barbed fittings connect your system. Insert the barbed fitting into the poly pipe or drip tube and secure with a locking clamp.

Pope's irrigation systems adapt to your garden layout and plant needs. Choose from drip irrigation for targeted watering, automatic systems for convenience, or connect your own components with poly pipe. Customise flow rate and match your setup to your soil type for an efficient, simple system.
How many sprinklers your system can run at one time depends on how much your home can supply. Your flow rate will determine the total number of pop-up sprinklers you can use at any one time. Different pop-up sprinklers will have their own flow rate. Similarly, drip lines contain emitters which distribute water at a certain rate (typically 2 l/h). The bucket test will also tell you just how much drip line you can run on one zone.
An easy way to calculate your flow rate is by doing a bucket test. All you need is your garden tap, a standard 9 litre bucket and a stopwatch. Before you start, make sure you measure your water flow at times of peak water usage. If using a tap timer or pressure reducer, make sure you measure the flow with the device fitted.
Place a 9 litre bucket under your garden tap, and turn the tap on full boar. Using a stopwatch, time how long it takes the water to reach capacity. Enter your results in the fields below to calculate your flow rate.

Confused about the different types of fittings? Let us explain for you to make your next DIY project easier.
Barbed fittings connect your system. Insert the barbed fitting into the poly pipe or drip tube and secure with a locking clamp.
For a watertight seal use threaded end fittings. These are common for connecting your water emission devices such as solenoid valve and pop up.
Male fittings feature the thread on the outside of the fittings. Male fittings are paired with female fittings with the same BSP for a watertight connection.
Female fittings feature the thread on the inside of the fittings. Female fittings are paired with male fittings with the same BSP for a watertight connection.
The size of your poly pipe, drip tube or pop-up will dictate the fittings you'll need. Refer to the size in millimetres, or BSP for threaded fittings.
Prevent poly tubing and Drip Eze® from slipping off barbed fittings by locking them securely in place with either a Loc-Sure® Clamp or Locking Clamp.
Rigid Risers screw directly into poly pipe to enable jets and spray to be located above ground.
Use elbows, tees or crosses to direct the water flow around a corner, or joiners to connect additional sections of poly pipe.

An irrigation system is a setup that delivers water to plants in a controlled way using connected components such as poly pipe fittings, tubing, drippers, sprays, or sprinklers. It helps apply water more consistently across the garden and can be tailored to different spaces, plant types, and watering needs.
A drip irrigation system delivers water slowly and directly to the base of plants through drippers & tricklers and a drip tube. This style of watering helps keep moisture near the roots rather than across the wider soil surface, making it a practical option for garden beds, borders, and planted areas.
An automatic irrigation controller helps manage when and how long your system runs. Using automation can make day-to-day watering easier, support a more consistent routine, and help manage different garden zones more efficiently.
Water pressure and flow rate affect how well an irrigation setup performs. Pressure influences how evenly water moves through the system, while flow rate helps determine whether you are running drippers & tricklers, jets & sprays, or pop-up sprinklers in each zone.
Start with your garden layout, plant needs, and water supply. A system using a drip tube and drippers & tricklers may suit garden beds and planted areas, while jets & sprays or pop-up sprinklers may be better for broader coverage. To connect everything correctly, choose the right poly pipe fittings for your setup.
